Adopt A Middle School

The Adopt-a-Middle School program fosters collaboration between businesses and educators to create project-based learning experiences that align with the district’s curriculum, while also raising students’ awareness of local job opportunities.

Connecting Learning and  Life

Preparing Lancaster County students with essential work and career skills is crucial. The Adopt-a-Middle School program connects businesses with local middle schools to provide insight into the skills needed in today’s world and supports teachers in creating authentic learning experiences.

Connecting Learning and Life

Expansive and authentic learning experiences integrate school curriculum content with real-world applications. With input from businesses, teachers receive professional development and coaching from the Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 on implementing, managing, and assessing Project-Based Learning in their classrooms.

Project goals:

  • Develop sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships between middle schools and local businesses to make students aware of local job opportunities.
  • Positively change outcomes for Lancaster County learners by enhancing their educational experience, ensuring they are better prepared to fill in-demand jobs in the community.

Reshaping Learning Through Project-Based- Learning

Project-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered approach that engages learners in real-world projects, fostering deep learning, critical thinking, and collaboration. Unlike traditional methods, PBL emphasizes active student involvement, problem-solving, and the application of knowledge to authentic challenges. This approach not only improves academic performance but also develops essential skills like creativity and communication, benefiting students, educators, and school communities.
